Bound For Glory - Limited Edition of 100 prints
The Durango/Silverton steam train brings to mind some of Arlo Guthrie's lyrics from City of New Orleans: Dealin card games with the old man in the club car; Penny a point, ain't no one keepin score; Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle; Feel the wheels rumblin neath the floor; And the sons of Pullman porters and the sons of engineers; Ride their fathers magic carpets made of steel; Mothers with their babes asleep, are rockin to the gentle beat; And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.
Fall Color in Cumbres Canyon - Limited Edition of 100 prints
The Cumbres & Toltec railroad runs from Chama, New Mexico just over the border into Colorado. Fall color was at its peak. This picture was shot from the train as we slowed down heading up the canyon next to the river.
Engine 481 - Limited Edition of 100 prints
Engine 481 prepares to take us up the canyon. These old engines require a lot of maintenance, and generally require a small fire crew to follow on behind to put out any hot spots caused by sparks. If you ride in an open car on these trips, you actually are covered in soot.
Cumbres & Toltec Railroad - Limited Edition of 100 prints
This old-time steam locomotive makes a trip from Chama, New Mexico, over Cumbres Pass and down into Colorado. It takes most of the day to make the train trip, but it is a short 1.5 hour bus trip back. The train is a wonderful experience, whether you are a photographer or not. It is a ride into history. I took this picture from an open car near the rear of the train as the train was rounding a wide curve
Fall Color in Animas River Canyon - Limited Edition of 100 prints
As the steam train made its way up the Animas River towards Silverton, there were pockets of intense color along the way. Sometimes the soot and smoke from the engine would obscure the mountain, but as we went around this corner it was clear.
Price: $75.00 Size: 13 x 1916 x 20 (add $15.00)
Animas River Fall Color - Limited Edition of 100 prints
For a few miles out of Durango, the terrain is flat and well populated, then the canyon narrows and the train heads up to Silverton alongside the Animas River. Fall color along the river made for beautiful scenes.
Animas River Canyon - Limited Edition of 100 prints
The Animas River, as seen from the Durango/Silverton steam train, winds through a steep canyon offering views of rapids, fall color and snow-capped peaks.
